Roads of Camp County need repair
Editorial By ELLIS KNOX reporter@campcountynow.com
I understand we’re a poor county and I understand the tax burden is cumbersome for many, but the condition of many county roads that are well traveled sometimes get all the attention and sometimes not. Have you ever been down the road to Los Pinos Vineyards? There are two ways to get there but most folks probably turn to U. S. Highway 271. is should be a show case road, but it is as neglected as most other roads in the county. I do not want to seem to pick on any one precinct. There are many roads in all four precincts that need attention. My own road is a case in point; we live on a dead end and the closer to that dead end you get the thinner, rougher, and more non-existent until the asphalt becomes just dirt. I’ve heard it said by many that the “nicer neighborhoods by the lake get all the attention.” I’m not sure that’s true. But the case can be made those citizens do pay a lot more in taxes on a $600,000 home and feel their road needs more attention because of their tax burden. But that’s not the way it should work. We pay what we are assessed to pay and if that is on property that has a $60,000 home it can be just as much a burden as that $600,000 home. However, I do not see equality in the treatment of our roads. Honestly, I have not complained to the County Commissioners and I have not spoken to them as yet. I did speak to County Judge Thomas Cravey and he commented on the situation.
