The Tet offensive 1968

March 29 was Vietnam Veterans Day. I have numerous friends who are veterans of my generation’s war. When the lottery system started I was number 360 out of 366. So my chances of being dra ed were nil. I did not consider myself lucky as I had thought about a military career very seriously to follow in the footsteps of many in my family. However, I was not able to serve in the military as a car wreck with a drunk driver eliminated any chance of that. I was a senior in High School in 1968. I had watched the TV news with great interest and when the o ensive started, everyone was greatly surprised as many thought the communist were on the verge of defeat. e Vietcong and the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) were actually defeated in the Tet o ensive of 1968 but our le leaning news media declared it a Vietcong victory.
