Scouting Report by Ellis Knox

Pittsburg is now 6 and 0, besides being 2 and 0 for homecomings, much to the chagrin of the home teams. To recap last Friday, Pitt had 91 total plays, rushed and passed for 520 yards with Senior No. 4-Tray walker with 308 yards and two TDs, and Senior No. 3-Brian Baca with 108 yards and four TDs.
Sophomore kicker No. 82-Alex Rodriguez was 7 for 7 extra points. Senior No. 28-Fre’zarian Harrison picked up a fumble and ran it back for a TD. He was chosen Defensive Player of the Game.
Senior No. 14-Robert Hollins led the team with 6 unassisted tackles and No. 25-Link Emard led the team with nine combined solo and assisted tackles. Senior No. 23-Bobby Stroud and Senior No. 28-Fre’zarian Harrison sacked the North Lamar quarterback three times each and Juniors No. 31-Bradlee Warrick and No. 44-E. J. Hill sacked him once each.
The pressure by the defense especially in the fourth quarter finally wore the N. Lamar offense down. As stated before, this is not the old Pittsburg Pirate team.
However, the upcoming game this Friday is going to be tough. Liberty-Eylau has one loss, their season opener to Gilmer by 5 points.
Maxprep high school ranking has listed Pittsburg No. 7 and Liberty-Eylau No. 10 in 4A-1 state division rankings. At this point in District 7-4A, Division 1 is in a three way tie for first place with Pitt, Liberty-Eylau, and Princeton all winning last Friday night.
Liberty-Eylau cannot be underestimated. This weekend is a must win.
“Liberty-Eylau, they are talented, they are as good looking a team physically as you’ll see at our level of high school football. They’ve got several kids that college scouts are looking at,” said Pittsburg Athletic Director Brad Baca.
Coach Baca went on to explain the stats for their quarterback are especially good. “He is a forced to be reckoned with, and we will have to contain him,” he said.
Statically it’s a toss-up. “We can’t be intimidated by anybody now. It’s going to be decided by who shows up determined to play, and all we have to do is be one and zero this week,” Coach Baca said.
At North Lamar once again the visitors seemed to provide the home field advantage to the Pirates. A North Lamar fan remarked that he had never seen the visitors stands that full before or make that much noise.
