Weekend roundup
Hot weather will once again blanket the area this weekend, but there's plenty of fun to be had in Pittsburg. The city is hosting a grand opening of its Splash Pad Saturday and the first 25 folks get in free courtesy of Pittsburg Mayor Shawn Kennington. The mayor is also buying the first 25 snow cones purchased Saturday.
Coca-Cola is donating the first 24 Cokes purchased, Camp County Monument Co. is donating the first 24 Dr Peppers, Pittsburg Police Chief Richard Penn is donating the first 25 pickles, Harold and Dawn Kennington are buying 25 snowcones and the Drugstore and Daily Grind donated the first 25 Fanta orange drinks.
Aug. 1 Burrow-Mosley Reunion
Descendants of Banks E. Burrow, born 1854 and died 1953, in Sulphur Springs and Marandy Elizabeth Mosley of Cass County in Northeast Texas will meet at noon Saturday, Aug. 1, at the O’Farrell Community Center between Atlanta and Red Hill on FM 995 in Cass County. There will be a covered dish meal. Their children are Marandy Jane, John, Ben, Robert Wade “Bob,” Rufus Garfield “Gar,” Daniel, Jackie, Tincie, Sallie and Mary Lou. Aug. 1 Splash Pad Grand Opening
The City of Pittsburg will host a grand opening of Splash Pittsburg at Fair Park at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1.
Aug. 1 Farmer’s Market
A farmer’s market is held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Texas Country Farm Supply in Pittsburg. There is no fee to set up but a permit must be obtained from the Pittsburg/Camp County Chamber of Commerce. The last market will be held Aug. 22. Aug. 1 Los Pinos Ranch Harvest
Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards, 658 CR 1334, will host a Soul to Sole Harvest 2015 Saturday, Aug. 1. Events start at 6 a.m. with a sunrise harvest. At 10 a.m. a behind the scenes crush and press is planned with a 1 p.m. grape smash with custom feet T’s. From 7-10:30 p.m. there will be live jazz with Purple Velvet Fox. Aug. 2 Union Chapel Women’s Day
Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church is hosting its annual Women’s Day Program at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2. The church is 3 ½ miles southeast on FM 2254. The theme for the program is “Order My Steps,” and the speaker will be Minister Arthur J. Simmons from One Community Church in Plano. Aug. 2 Pine Bluff 147th Anniversary
Pine Bluff First Baptist Church will celebrate its 147th Church Anniversary Sunday, Aug. 2. Pastor is E.A. Ballard Jr. Theme is “Let us go into the house of the Lord.” Pastor J. Walker and the Union Missionary Baptist Church of Omaha will be special guests. Dinner to be served following the service.
Aug. 2 BlackStrap Joe performs
