Splash pad opens Saturday, Aug. 1

Pittsburg kids can cool off Saturday at the city’s grand opening of Splash Pittsburg at Fair Park. Starting at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, Pittsburg Mayor Shawn Kennington will be paying the admission fee for the first 25 adults and children that enter the park. He will also be paying for the first 25 snow cones purchased at the concession stand. Coca-Cola will be donating the first 24 Cokes purchased.
Pittsburg City Manager Clint Hardeman said this is an exciting time for the City of Pittsburg and its residents. “We cannot wait to see our community’s kids enjoy this park,” he said. “Over the past few years, we have revitalized both Moore and Fair Park and we have seen a significant increase in the utilization of the parks.”
Splash Pittsburg will have free wifi, air-conditioned men and women’s restrooms with benches and changing tables, lighted covered pavilions and a variety of beverages, snacks and snow cones at the concession stand. SuddenLink will also be providing free music service for the park. The splash pad was originally slated to be finished by the beginning of the summer, but heavy rainfall pushed construction back a few months. City staff who have been working on the project for years finally get to see the fruits of their labor. “All the city employees enjoy seeing the public have a good time at our city parks,” Mr. Hardeman said. “I truly appreciate all the support and hard work to help make this project a reality.” Over the past few years, the city has spent more than $350,000 in improvements at the park by adding new playground equipment, sidewalks and a pavilion.
