Weekend weather and events
It's going to be a scorcher this weekend according to the Weather Channel. Saturday's high temperature is forecast at 102 with an overnight low of 75 degrees. Sunday doesn't look much better with a high of 101 and low of 75. Be sure to bring pets inside when you can and provide plenty of fresh water. This is also a good time to check on any of the elderly who may need fans or water.
Several events are scheduled in Pittsburg this weekend, including a Farmer's Market, concert and church celebrations.
July 25 - Farmer’s Market
A farmer’s market is held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Texas Country Farm Supply in Pittsburg. There is no fee to set up but a permit must be obtained from the Pittsburg/Camp County Chamber of Commerce. The last market will be held Aug. 22. July 25 - Billy W. Holcomb in Concert
Pittsburg Church of God hosts Billy W. Holcomb at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at the church, 424 Mt. Pleasant St. in Pittsburg. Mr. Holcomb was pastor at the Pittsburg church from July 1970 to January 1973 and his daughters went to school here. He has since appeared on television shows and with stars Walt Mills, Willie Nelson and Laverne Tripp. Pastor is Brother William E. Clay.
July 26 - Independent Hope Anniversary
Independent Hope Baptist Church will celebrate its anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26, at the church, 6055 FM 993 in Pittsburg. The guest speaker will be Rev. Roy Miles, pastor of Pine Bluff Baptist Church in Naples. Rev. J.M. Brooks is pastor.
July 26 - North Chapel Men and Women Annual Day
North Chapel C.M.E. Church will host its Men and Women Annual Day at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 26, at the church, 444 CR 2116 in Pittsburg. Spoken word will be provided by Rev. Mayvonne Moton, pastor of Hickory Hill CME in Pittsburg. Rev. Carolyn Guice-Chamblee is pastor and local minister is Eric Guice. For more information, call (903) 796-0455.
