Pirates pick up two wins, start district play Friday

The Pittsburg Pirates picked up two more wins on the season this past week by defeating Chess Academy 77-57 and Clarksville 53-49 in overtime.
Deldric “Red” Shields and Sir Charles Perkins led scorers against Chess Academy with 16 points and 15 points respectively. Shields was seven of 10 from the floor and knocked down two shots from beyond the arc. Perkins was six of nine from the floor, going three for three from two point range and he also produced nine points from three point land. Others scoring for the Pirates were: Dejour Dowell with 12 points, E.J. Hill with 10 points, D.J. Porter with eight points, Robert Hollins with two points, Keondre Traylor with two points, and Teryian Cuba, Justin Zepeda, and Nakarie Howard all had four points on the night for the Pirates.
Pittsburg shot 53 percent from the floor, going 35-66 and recorded a 58.8 percent mark from two point range, going 30-51. The Pirates held Chess Academy to just 26 first half points, compared to Pittsburg’s 41 points in the first half.
The Pirates defeated thirteenth ranked Clarksville later in the week in a barnburner that would go into overtime.
Dejour Dowell led scorers with a primetime performance, garnering 17 points. He went seven of 16 from the floor and knocked down a three point shot.
