The Pittsburg Pirate basketball squad was busy over Christmas break as they participated in the Leonard Tournament where they placed fifth in a 16 team tournament.

The fifth place game would be a barnburner as the Pirates sealed the victory against Pottsboro on a game winning three point shot from Keondre Traylor who had a team leading 16 points. Pittsburg started the fourth quarter down eight points, but took a three point lead with under 30 seconds to play. Pottsboro then hit a three to tie the game and the Pirates missed on their next shot and fouled in the process, sending Pottsboro to the line for two free-throws; they would sink both giving them a two point lead with 14 seconds left.
Coach J.B. Littlejohn said, “We came down and took a timeout and I told the guys look for the two inside, but take the three if it’s there and Keondre hit the three at the buzzer to give us a one point win.”
E.J. Hill had 13 points in the game, Jakevion Traylor and Sir Charles  Perkins had eight points apiece, D.J. Porter had seven points, and Justin  Zepeda had five points for the Pirates. The team went 7-10 from the charity stripe in this one.
Pittsburg started the tournament in the right direction by defeating Caddo Mills 86-65. E.J. Hill had a dominate performance, leading scorers with 20 points. Keondre Traylor produced 14 points for the Pirates; while Perkins, D.J. Porter, Teryian Cuba, D.J. Hughes, Jakevion Traylor, Deldric “Red” Shields, and Zepeda also scored for the Pirates. The aforementioned scored 13 points, four points, 11 points, two points, three points, four points, and four points respectively. Perkins knocked down three shot from beyond the arc and Robert Hollins sank one from beyond the arc for Pittsburg; the team went 9-17 from the charity stripe.
