Julian

Services for William Henry Julian Jr., 88, were held Sunday, Nov. 30 at the Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Packer officiating. Interment was at Leesburg Cemetery. He was born Feb. 13, 1926 in Camp County and died Nov. 28 at East Texas Medical Center Pittsburg.
At age 17 he enlisted in the Army Reserve Corps and was assigned to Texas Tech University. He received Infantry Basic training in Arkansas and was assigned to the 10th Mtn. Division at Camp Swift. The Division landed in Italy December 1944 and took part in two major campaigns. When the war in Italy ended in May 1945, the Division was in the south end of Brenner Pass. He wasawarded the Combat Infantry Badge, European Theater Ribbon with two campaign stars. He was wounded twice and awarded the Bronze Star Medal with cluster and V Valor Emblem. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and was employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He was Refuge Manager on National Wildlife Refuges in six southeast states and retired to Leesburg in 1981 after 30 years of service. He was a member of theFirst Baptist Church in Pittsburg.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Gist Julian; two sons, Keith Gist Julian of Troy, Mo., Paul David Julian and his wife Cindi of Bullard; one daughter-in-law Cindy Laine Julian of Waco; two sisters, Virginia P. Julian Dorries and husband, William L. Dorries of Florida and Edith Julian King of Jasper; grandchildren, C. Laine Julian and Emily Julian, Linda Gayle Julian, Caleb Shelby Julian and Jes Swim, Sarah Maria Julian, Bethany Ann Julian, Cierra Elizabeth Julian and one great-grandchild, Lucia Rose Julian. He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Julian Sr. and Dixie Amanda Shelby Julian and one son, Charles William Julian. Pallbearers were Linda Julian, Caleb Julian, Sarah Julian, Cierra Julian, James Jordan and Harry Weed. Memorials may be made to the Leesburg Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 88, Leesburg, TX 75451.
