Lady Pirates win season opener 65-9 over Waskom

The Lady Pirates opened their regular season last Tuesday night as they destroyed the Lady Wildcats 65-9, giving them a 1-0 record on the season. Kaycee Parker, D’Maya Hashaway, Maxie Ivory, Ayanna Palmer, and Shaundrea Rhymes started the game for the Lady Pirates. The Lady Pirates were able to drop 65 points thanks in part to going 27 of 56 from the field which accounted for a 48.2 shooting percentage.Hashaway and Palmer lead the scoring for the Pirates with 18 and 17 points respectively on the night. Parker had three points, Ivory tickled the twine with eight points, and Rhymes ended the night with six points. Genesis Lopez, Nakiya “Nay” Brown, Taylor Leonard, and Brilie Cummings  came off the benchfor the Lady Pirates and helped fuel their 65-point offensive attack. Combined, the Lady Pirate bench put up 19 points. The Lady Pirates would also show off their defensive prowess by nabbing the ball a total of 26 times from their opponents. Parker and Hashaway lead the team with four takeaways apiece with each player except one accounting for at least one of the 26 forced turnovers. In addition, the Lady Pirates crashed the boards with authority, accumulating 26 rebounds.
