Southwestern Electric Power warns customers

 Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) has issued a memorandum to all its customers concerning utility fraud.

There are reports about callers claiming to be from the SWEPCO Disconnect Department. The callers claim that the person or business owes money for past due SWEPCO bills and that service will be disconnected immediately if not paid. The caller then suggests that the customer purchase a debit or cash card to pay the bill.
 
SWEPCO wants its customers to know that: SWEPCO does not call customers to demand immediate payment.
 
SWEPCO will not ask for customers to purchase a debit/cash card to pay bills.
 
SWEPCO does notify customers with delinquent accounts via customer bills.
 
“SWEPCO does not call customers threatening disconnection and demanding immediate payment. If customers have doubts about who they are speaking to, they should hang up and call SWEPCO directly,” Said Scott McCloud, principal communications associate, Corporate Communications.
