Several students, teachers honored at school board meeting

The Pittsburg ISD board of trustees recognized the top ranking students for the graduating Class of 2014, Hannah Heyduck and Grant Gooding were honored as Valedictorian and Salutatorian respectively. The board also recognized the high school theatre program for their outstanding performance and efforts in One Act Play by advancing to the UIL Regional competition with their production of “The Cripple of Inishmaan” and for their service as excellent ambassadors for the school and community. Those honored were: Sierra Kennedy, Makayla Stratton, Destiny Holmes, Brianna Stacks, Aaron Franks, Alyssa Saunders, Hailey Marshall, Megan Moore, David Hullett, Jacob Lain, Justin Mejia, William Yocum, Johann Strottman, and teacher Belinda Matlock.
 
Duke TIP Qualifiers for the intermediate campus werealso honored for their outstanding achievements on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test. Students must have garnered a certain percentage on their respective test scores (reading, writing, and math) to qualify. Those in attendance received certificates and ribbons from the board, the honorees were: Wade Yantis, Christian Fierro,Grace Neighbours, Nathan By, Karoline Guerra, Daniel Guerrero, Yahir Avila, and Trey Robertson.
 
The board was also listened to a report regarding the high school student council from sponsor Betty Stagg. The student council was increased in size from 32 to 40 participants to 48 participants total; 12 from each class. The increase is due to a growing number of students who have expressed interest in joining the council. Each class will now have four officers and eight representatives to speak for them on their behalf.
