The Pittsburg Independent School District trustees held a school board meeting Monday night to discuss various matters. The board approved the hiring of Dr. Dennis Hopkins to the PISD band staff. Dr Hopkins holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Baylor University, a Master of Arts from West Texas A&M University, and a Doctor of Arts from Northern Colorado University. Dr Hopkins has taught at the high school and university level for 35 years and several of his bands have achieved high honors. Dr Hopkins also served in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Superintendent Judy Pollan had this to say about the hiring of Dr. Hopkins, “Since our band program has grown so much and we want to ensure that this large number of students can be assimilated into the band program with the highest degree of efficiency and effectiveness, we wanted to utilize Dr. Hopkins’ expertise and experience to help our band continue on the path of success and excellence that it is on now. With Dr. Hopkins, and Mr. Jesmore working together, this will ensure even greater success and recognition for our program and fully afford to the students the best experience and education possible.”
