This past Saturday, I had the pleasure to play in the Second Annual Sonny Smith Memorial Golf Tournament that was held at Princedale Country Club. The tournament benefits the Pittsburg ISD Athletic Department and is a lot of fun. I want to thank athletic director Dickey Meeks and the rest of the PISD coaching staff for not only working hard to get this event ready, but also for working tirelessly everyday to make themselves and our athletes better. One thing I’ve noticed about this coaching staff is that they are making an impact on students’ lives which is priority number one. Winning, and all the other accolades come second and that’s exactly what we need in a coaching staff. If you knew my grandpa Sonny, then you know he was the biggest Pirate fan in Pittsburg. He too loved to win, but also believed all that stuff came second to making sure the kids were going to be successful in life. I wish he was still around to see how our coaches interact with students. He would be very impressed.
