Tammy Belk was one of over 120 participants in the handicapable rodeo.  Jacob Ross is valedictorian of Pittsburg High School. Ryan Jewell is salutatorian. Rosie Lee Brooks is indicted in Upshur County on a murder charge. She is accused of killing Freda Cline. Loyd Craig is also indicted on arson charges for setting the vehicle on fine.

Garnett Mitchell named to All-State basketball team. Dr. Larry Jack Richardson wins a seat on the Pittsburg Independent School District school board. Girls golf team takesfirst place at Regional tournament. Team members are Valerie Doss, Ranonne McAlester, Stacy Kendall, Kim Clemens and Jamie Antwine.

Ed Peacock defeats incumbent Jesse Graves in sheriff’s race. Jack Efurd and O. C. Taylor are winners in commissioners’ races. Julie Kilburn finishes second in State 3,200-meter run. Texas arts councilpresident speaks to local arts council. New United Pentecostal Church building on Arch Davis Road dedicated.

Carl Friberg is valedictorian of graduating seniors. Katherine Heers is salutatorian. Jesse Nickerson Jr. wins election for county judge; David Abernathy is new justice of the peace. Jim Welch, SWEPCO manager, moves to Mineola.

Senior class honorgraduates are Jackie Thornton and Jimmy Cure. Rocky Bell speaks to Rotary Club on Civil Rights bill.

Heavy rains and a cold wave swept over Pittsburg and Camp County. Dorothy King won DAR Good Citizenship Award. Pittsburg Pirate Band left Thursday for the Cotton Carnival in Memphis, Tenn.

Damaging rainfall in the county was 87/8 inches. W. M. Thorsell was home from Whitehorse, Canada where he had an important welding job. Pittsburg National Bank lets contract for more vault room and new fixtures.

Several parties were fined $25 each for operating a slot machine in Pittsburg.
 
110 YEARS AGO
The railroads made a round-trip fare of $11.90 to the World’s Fair in St. Louis. The Katy Railroad ran a special train to Hughes Springs at a roundtrip fare of 50 cents.
