The Pirates came up short at home Friday as they fell to the visiting Hawks of Pleasant Grove, 3-1.
The Hawks started the season ranked No. 2 in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Poll but have fallen off the list with several losses recently. The Hawks were able to shut down the Pirates, though, holding Pittsburg to just a single run and only three hits.
Pirate starting pitcher Brandon “Bam” Colbert got into and out of trouble in the top of the opening inning as the Hawks loaded the bases with a hit batter and two walks before Colbert got the Pirates out of the inning with a strikeout.
Pleasant Grove got on the board in the top of the second inning as an error, a single and a fielder’s choice allowed the first run of the game to cross the plate.
