Pirates baseball wins two over spring break

The Pirates picked up a pair of wins this week as they used an eighth-inning rally to down Mount Pleasant Wednesday before picking up a 14-0 win over Daingerfield Thursday.
The Pirates built a large early lead before cruising to a 14-0 win over Daingerfield Thursday. Pittsburg scored five in the first inning and added six more runs in the second and the Pirates built a quick 11-0 lead.
Charlie Mitchell got the biggest hit of the day for the Pirates in the bottom of the second as he launched a 2-2 breaking ball over the left field fence for a towering three-run home run that put Pittsburg up 9-0 at the time. Mitchell finished the game 1-2 at the plate.
Garrett Truitt was 3-4 at the plate with a double, three RBI and scored two runs to lead the Pirate offense while Johnathan Boyd was 2-2, Trace Burns was 2-3 and Cody Perry was 2-4 with a double.
Truitt started the game on the mound and picked up the win for the Pirates, throwing three scoreless innings as he struck out six and walked three. Christian Edwards also threw a scoreless inning, as did Daniel Gilmore.
