Pirates junior varsity track team wins first meet

The junior varsity Pirates earned top honors at the Mount Vernon track meet Thursday while the varsity Lady Pirates finished second and a short-handed varsity boys team came in seventh.
The jv boys racked up seven first-place finished on their way to winning the meet and also took second in six more events.
The domination by the jv Pirates began in the field event with the long jump as Pittsburg had three athletes place in the top six. Jakeviean Traylor was second in the event with a jump of 18 feet, 2 and one-half inch. Robert Hollins was second with a leap of 17 feet, 2 and one-half inch and Dejour Dowell was sixth with a jump of just over 17 feet.
Matthew Belt earned a second-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 8 inches. Dalton Warrick earned the first top spot for the Pirates in the pole vault as he won the event by clearing a height of 9 feet, 6 inches.
