Pirates earn pair of wins at Hallsville tournament

The Pirates picked up a pair on wins, lost one and saw one game end in a tie last week as they were in action at the Hallsville Tournament.
Cody Perry, Brandon Colbert and Trace Burns each had two hits for the Pirates in their opening game of the tournament Thursday as Pittsburg fought Spring Hill to a 6-6 tie. Perry finished 2-4 with a double, an RBI and also scored a run while Colbert was 2-3 with an RBI and a run. Burns was 2-4 with an RBI and also scored.
Spring Hill jumped out to a quick lead with two runs in the top of the opening inning before the Pirates answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Perry led off the bottom of the inning with a single, moved to second on an error and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Colbert.
Pittsburg rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning as Banks reached base on an error and later scored on a double to center by Perry to tie the game at two. Burns followed that with an single to left to bring Perry home and put the Pirates up 3-2.
The Pirates help a one-run lead into the fifth inning, where Sping Hill added three runs to grab a 5-3 advantage.
The Pirates again had an answer in the bottom of the inning as singles by Burns, Colbert, Charlie Mitchell and Caleb Banks helped Pittsburg score three runs to regain the lead, 6-5.
Two hits and a stolen base allowed Spring Hill to tie the game in the top of the sixth and neither team was able to score again as the game ended with a 6-6 tie.
The Pirates picked up a win in their second game of the tournament as they scored three runs on four hits to down Henderson, 3-2.
