Obituaries

Nancy Robertson Bell, born in Nacogdoches in Nov. 22 1932, her services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 at St. William Laud Episcopal Church in Pittsburg. Mrs. Bell died Feb. 18.

Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. at St. William Laud Episcopal Church. She was a fifth-generation Texan and was descended from pioneering families on both her mother and father’s side. When she was a small child her parents, a lawyer and an educator, settled in Pittsburg, and it was there that she developed lifelong friendships. She always had a youthful spirit, a joy for life, and a beautiful smile. She was known for her creativity and talent as an artist.

After following her Air Force husband, L.E. “Rocky” Bell, around the country while raising a family of five children, they settled back in Pittsburg after her husband finished Baylor Law School in Waco.

Mrs. Bell later returned to school and was a graduate of East Texas State University in Commerce. They were among the original members of St. William Laud Episcopal Church, and she always cherished her church family. After Rocky’s death she relocated to Victoria and eventually to Austin to become a sorority house mother at the University of Texas. It was there that she cultivated her talent as an accomplished author, writing nine books, and receiving national acclaim for her work. Her East Texas roots provided endless inspiration for her locally based mysteries.

When she decided to retire she returned to her beloved Pittsburg to spend her remaining years among lifelong friends and family. She was a loving and endlessly supportive mother to her children, and she adored her grandchildren as they loved their “Mammy”.

Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Kathleen Robertson, husband, L.E. “Rocky” Bell, and grandson, Sterling Presley.

She is survived by sons, Tom Bell of Brooklyn, New York, Tony Bell and wife Susan of Goliad and Jeff Bell of Austin; daughters, Sally Bell Moseley and husband Kenneth of Longview and Rebecca Bell Sewalt of Pittsburg; grandchildren, Sara Presley Hegener, Annie Presley Brewer, Emily Moseley Delzell, Meg Moseley Cox, Tara Bell, Bryan McAdams, Jason McAdams, Katie Hughes Gray, Sunday Sewalt, and Trey Sewalt; and 11 Great Grandchildren.
