Pittsburg Junior High Pirates on a roll

The Pirate junior high basketball squads have gotten off to a good start in district this season as the seventh and eighth-grade teams have combined to go 5-3.
The seventh-grade team most recently picked up a win over Pleasant Grove, downing the Hawks 23-16.
Pittsburg jumped out to a commanding 13-2 halftime lead before holding on in the second half to get the win.
Jaylon Jimmerson led the way with nine points for Pittsburg in the win while Keithlen Griffen had eight points, Derek McCellon had three, Antwon Robertson scored two and Mason Monts had one point.
The Pirates fell behind early and couldn’t recover against Liberty-Eylau as Pittsburg fell, 34-23. Jordan Turner led the team with six points in the loss while Griffin had five and Jimmerson and Monts each added four.
The second quarter was the difference against Paris as the Pirates picked up a 33-26 victory. After each team scored nine in the opening quarter, the Pirates outscored Paris 10-4 in the second and never looked back.
Jimmerson led the way in the win with 11 points while Turner was also in double figures with 10. Monts had six points and Griffin, Robertson and Keonte Burns each scored two.
The Pirates turned a 21-6 halftime lead into a lopsided win over Atlanta as Pittsburg picked up a 39-24 win.
Jimmerson scored 20 to lead the Pirates in the win while Burns added 10, Turner had four, Griffin added three and Robertson scored two points.
The eighth-grade Pirates opened district play with a win over Atlanta, downing the Rabbits, 39-23. Pittsburg led 14-0 after one quarter of play and never looked back.
Jaxin Farmer led the way with 16 points in the win while Brent McGee scored seven, Cody Jones had five, Eric Cruz scored three and Eric Kimble, Kelvin McCain, Jackson Yantis and Slade Whitson each scored two.
The Pirates also picked up a 19-15 win over Liberty-Eylau as Farmer scored seven to lead the way while McGee had six and Yantis, Whitson and Jones each scored two.
Pittsburg came up short against Pleasant Grove in the Pirates’ latest outing, falling 40-13.
Farmer had 10 points in the loss while Jones scored two and Yantis scored one.
