Local mother indicted after infant dies

Gazette Staff Reports
Christie Rene Joslin was arrested Nov. 19 and charged with two counts of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. The child was Skyler Grace Joslin, her 5-week-old daughter, who died May 14.
Mrs. Joslin, 21, was indicted by a Camp County Grand Jury on Nov. 14.
A joint investigation between the Camp County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers was launched after the child’s death. According to Sheriff Alan McCandless, state law dictates if a child dies under the age of 6, an autopsy is mandatory.
“It took approximately three months to receive autopsy results from the Institute of Forensic Science, but an investigation was launched immediately after the child’s death by Chief Deputy Randal Lain and Texas Ranger Ken Bond,” Sheriff McCandless said. “The investigation was presented to Camp County District Attorney Charles Bailey in late October.”
