Pittsburg’s cross country teams were in action close to home last week as they ran at the Saltillo meet at Lake Bob Sandlin.
Both the varsity boys and girls came away with second at the meet while the JV girls won the meet and the JV boys were fourth.
“This meet was a good measuring stick for us as a team,” head coach John Chatham said. “Several of the teams we will be facing at the district meet were here and we were able to see where we stack up against them.”
The varsity girls finished with 141 to come in second, 102 points behind North Lamar, which finished the meet with 39.
“North Lamar is going to be hard to beat this year,” Chatham said about the finish.
Abbi Florey led the Lady Pirates as she finished third overall with a time of 12:45 while Leslie Farfan was 11th with a time of 14:16. Breanna Morris was 25th, Hannah McElhaney was 27th and Genesis Lopez finished 34th.
The Pirate varsity boys also finished second at the meet with 85 points, 27-points behind North Lamar and just six points ahead of third-place Saltillo.
Jacob Martinez was the Pirates top finisher, coming in seventh with a time of 18:59 while Noel Baldelamar was eighth with a time of 19:00. Mario Perez was 11th, Yimmin Ramos was 27th and Ismael Moreno finished 32nd.
The JV girls won their division at the meet as Carol Saunders was fourth with a time of 15:39 and Raven Garrison was 12th with a time of 16:36. The JV girls finished with 64 points, six points ahead of second-place Liberty-Eyalu.
The JV boys finished fourth and were led by Jacon Zambrano and Trison Adams.
