Lady Pirates finish first at Miller’s Grove

By Jeremy Weber

Pittsburg’s cross country teams battled the elements once again last week as they competed at the Miller’s Grove meet.
The varsity girls won their second meet of the season as they grabbed three of the top-10 places at the meet while the varsity boys finished third at the meet. The Pirate JV boys finished fourth at the meet while the JV girls came in first.
Weather was once again a factor as the teams took to the course as a cold front began to push its way through the area.
“We had stinking rain again this week,” head coach John Chatham said. “This was an area where they had just clear cut all the trees out, so it was really nasty. It was really wet and it also got a bit chilly. The JV boys ran in a downpour. If there were any way to stop a cross country meet, they probably would have. It was just a downpour the whole race. Those poor kids were soaked.”
