High school students qualify for Regionals

The Pittsburg High School journalism team, made up of Emma Lee, Daniel Yanez, Terra Eagan, Ro Burns and Blanca Alvarez, won nine medals at the District meet. As a team, they placed second and are headed to Regionals.

The Pittsburg High School University Interscholastic League Academic Team had six students advance to the Regional Meet after qualifying at the District meet held March 22 at Northeast Texas Community College.
The spelling quartet of Wynter Fielder, Charles Walker, Cori Tripp and Brianna Stacks finished first overall as a team to advance to Regionals. Individually, Wynter was first overall and Charles third.
In journalism, Pittsburg won nine medals and finished second overall as a team. Advancing to Region in journalism are Emma Lee, who placed second in feature writing, and Blanca Alvarez, third in headlines. Emma and Blanca each won three medals. Emma placed fourth in both news writing and editorial writing, and Alvarez was fifth in both news writing and editorials.
Terra Eagan placed fourth in headlines and seventh in both editorials and features, Daniel Yanez was fourth in features and Ro Burns fifth in headlines and seventh in news writing.
For the year, the PHS journalism team won 31 medals in four meets this year.
The current events team came in third with Wynter placing fourth, Charles ninth and Jeremiah Jones 10th. Also competing for Pittsburg were Daniel Yanez, Andi Gonzales and Jasmine Terrell in ready writing and Ben Romero and Ashlynn Ernest in science.
Earlier in the week, Charles got fifth and Blanca sixth in informative speaking and Parker Sewell fifth in persuasive speaking. Ro, Jocelyne Flores and Guy Stilwell also competed.
