The school board approved several resignations at the March 25 school board meeting, along with teacher contract renewals.
Kathleen Fender at the intermediate school, Sue Cates with the administration office, Kristin Fobell at the junior high, Carol Spencer at the primary and Ruth Burkhalter at the elementary all turned in their resignations to the administration. All but Mrs. Fobell were retiring from teaching.
The board took no action on a request from David Hoover to strike a trailer home from the tax rolls. Mr. Hoover, in a letter to the board, stated that the home was abandoned on a lot in his trailer park in 2006. He said the trailer home has several tax liens on it and is now the property of the taxing authority.
“Recently this property was put up for auction, and there were no bids (the property has no value),” Mr. Hoover said.
The board voted unanimously for no action.
At the meeting, the board also approved the school calendar for the 2013-2014 school year, instructional materials allotment for the 2013-2014 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and entered into a purchasing agreement with PACE, the Purchasing Association of Cooperative Entities, a free service for school districts that allows them to purchase from PACE vendors.
The board approved hiring LeaAnn Brown as a first grade teacher, on the recommendation of Principal Vicki Rockett, to replace Sheila Trull, who is retiring.
“She has demonstrated a natural ability for working with children, and her students have made great progress since she has been with us,” Mrs. Rockett said in a letter to Judy Pollan, the school superintendent.
The next school board meeting will be April 22 at 6 p.m.
