Filing for school/city offices ends this Friday in Pittsburg

There will be four open positions on the May 11 ballot for the Pittsburg Independent School District board of trustees.
Place 3 as added to the ballot, after the incumbent, Sarah Johns, resigned last week. Greg Miller has filed for this position. Filing for Place 3 will continue through March 11.
Filing for Places 4, 6 and 7 will end at 5 p.m. March 1. Dr. Dan Kincaid has filed to run for Place 4, an unexpired term formerly held by Jeff Antwine. Incumbent Jerral Walker has filed for re-election in Place 6. Place 7 had drawn two contenders, Carmen Mitchell and Danny Carey.
Anyone interested in serving on the school board should stop by the Central Administration Office, 402 Broach St. between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday or Thursday. The office will be open until 5 p.m. Friday.
Pittsburg Mayor Shawn Kennington is up for re-election this year, as is Fred Cook, who holds Place 4, on the city council. Both incumbents have filed to run for another term.
Filing for these positions also ends Friday. Anyone who is interested in challenging the incumbents can go to City Hall, 200 Rusk St. between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Early voting for the school and city elections will be held April 29 through May 7. Voters will also be able to vote on an amendment to the city’s Home Rule Charter and a $9.09 million bond for the school district.
May 11 is Election Day. The city and school elections will be held at the cafetorium on Fulton Street.
